As the first week wraps up, I have a lot to be excited about for this upcoming semester in Vivero. I met with my faculty advisor and am looking forward to helping students navigate their own blog posts as I learn how to use WordPress slightly before them. I think this learning and then teaching process will help me understand the platform even better. At our training this past week, we browsed through some digital humanities projects others have done and that was a very inspiring process. Seeing so many different topics represented in such different ways all by people who truly care about the subject made me want to make a million different websites on a million different topics. So far I don’t have any questions, but that may change rather quickly.
cPanel looks quite intimidating at a first glance. Just being in the back end of something is intimidating in general. It wasn’t too bad to get the WordPress site set up and I haven’t had any issues with it yet. I find it hard to start things though because I want to be really good at them before I even begin. This makes it hard to look at the cPanel screen and not know what all the buttons do, same with WordPress. I’m eager to dive further into customization options for my WordPress site as long as I don’t get distracted by my coursework. There was a brief moment of panic because I had bookmarked my WordPress site and tried to click back to it this evening only to be met with a login screen. I tried my three most common passwords before it locked me out because I must be some intruder. Thankfully, if I go to the cPanel I’m automatically logged in and can navigate to the back end of my WordPress site from there.
